The Cascade County Historical Society acknowledges that we are in the homelands of the Northern Plains Tribal Nations and offer our respect for their history, culture and wisdom.

The Cascade County Historical Society preserves and shares the history of North Central Montana through The History Museum, research archives and public programming.

Museum

The History Museum maintains engaging long term and short term exhibitions that interpret the rich cultural heritage of Cascade County and the surrounding area.

Collection

The History Museum collects artifacts that illustrate the history of Cascade County and the surrounding Central Montana area. Artifacts in the collection are safely stored away from light exposure, dust, and handling for utilization in future exhibitions. Digital cataloging projects are ongoing and will allow collections that are not on display to be available to the public online.

Archives

The History Museum Archives & Research Center maintains 4,500 square feet of closed stack resources accessible to the public through the Research & Reading Room. Historic photographs, blueprints, maps, bound newspapers, yearbooks, and many more original documents are available to the public for research.

Programming

The History Museum hosts many cultural events including Jazz Night, a tribute to the historic Ozark Club, Legacy Awards Night, a Lecture Series which features historic talks and author presentations, and more. We are excited to introduce new Second Saturday programming, happening every second Saturday of the month at 1pm! Visit our events page for more information.

Our Organization’s History

In 1976 a small group of visionaries formed the Cascade County Historical Society. The organization was housed at one time in four separate locations until uniting into one building. More information coming soon!

Our Historic Home

In 1929 the International Harvester company built a solid brick 47,625 square foot building on 2nd Street South in Great Falls, Montana, known as Machinery Row. More information coming soon!
