Merry Christmas from the Pen of Dale Lewis

When this collection was brought to us in 2016, we were awestruck by its fantastic calligraphy and holiday illustrations.

Dale and Chuck Lewis were married in 1951. She was a schoolteacher and Chuck was a railroad dispatcher. Their love for Christmas characterized their lives together. They started a Christmas collection in 1951 with a set of flying reindeer and Santa that they ordered from a J. C. Penny mail order catalog. Over the next 50 years, they decorated their home inside and out each Christmas. A cornerstone of their Christmas tradition was Dale’s handmade Christmas cards. Dale was known for her calligraphy, and you can see why!

This collection (reference number 2016.010.0002) contains 19 of Dale Lewis’ letters, and we’d love to have more if anyone out there is willing to share them with us.
